Ustedalsfjorden

Ustedalsfjorden summer and winter

This mostly flat 10 km nature trail is perfect for families looking to explore on foot or bicycles in the summer and on skies during the winter. Starting at Geilojordet, only 200 meters from the apartment, the path loops around the Ustedealsfjorden lake. Information boards along the way tell the history of Geilo’s flora and fauna. In warm weather Geilo beach, which sits about 2 km along the trail, is perfect for a quick dip to cool off. There are also several fishing and barbecue spots on the route.

In the summer the trail passes through the Fekjo Cultural Heritage Park, with a landscape art installation, old farming structures, and burial mounds from the Viking era (dated to about the year 900). About 1km further west, the trail passes over Tuftebrua bridge. The bridge has a special log construction and is a true copy of the old, protected bridge from 1884. On the southern side, the trail winds up a small, birch-covered hill before descending again towards the lake. The trail continues back towards the center of town via the golf course in Vestlia. If you are riding bikes, be sure to stop for some fun at Skurfen. Along the way, there are several fishing spots and rest areas with barbecue facilities, not to mention many fine viewpoints.

In the winter the trails for cross-country are prepared around the fjord every day and offers you a nice trip in beautiful surroundings.
